Provider setup in the next update

Version 1.6.0 build 20 is a draft update, not yet available on the Mac App Store. In Dashboard → Providers, choose Show Settings for a service to access its official setup and API-key guides. Save a key only when needed, then Check Connection.

Use Add Custom Provider with the service's HTTPS API Address, optional API key, and exact Model IDs. Invalid fields explain what to correct, and failed saves retain your entries. Custom connection checks read the model list; run a wizard to check text generation.

Connect TextWiz to an LLM: local Ollama track or cloud Gemini track, then configure Dashboard → Settings → Primary Provider. Free-tier signup links for Gemini, Groq, OpenRouter, and Mistral on the same page.

Before you start

TextWiz requires macOS 15.2 or later. The download and built-in Demo provider are free forever. Every real provider, cloud and on-device alike, requires TextWiz Pro. See pricing and the subscription terms. On-device engines have no per-token costs; cloud provider charges and limits are separate from TextWiz Pro.

On a supported Mac with Apple Intelligence enabled, open TextWiz → Dashboard → Settings and choose Apple Intelligence as Primary Provider. No API key or additional model install is needed.

Track A: Ollama on your Mac

  1. Install Ollama, or run brew install ollama.
  2. Start the local server with ollama serve and leave it running. Check it with curl http://localhost:11434/api/tags.
  3. Download a model with ollama pull llama3.2:3b. Choose a model that fits your Mac's memory.
  4. Open TextWiz → Dashboard → Settings. Set Primary Provider to Ollama, use the server URL http://localhost:11434, and click Refresh to discover installed models.
  5. Choose a Model, click Test Connection, then copy text with ⌘C and press ⌘⇧Space to run a wizard.

Track B: Gemini with your own API key

  1. Sign in to Google AI Studio and create an API key. Check the current Gemini API pricing and limits.
  2. Open TextWiz → Dashboard → Settings and choose Gemini as Primary Provider. In the API Key card, click Configure, paste your key, and click Save Key. The key is stored in macOS Keychain.
  3. Click Test Connection and choose a suggested Model. To add another API model ID, use Dashboard → Providers → Validate & Add.
  4. Copy text with ⌘C, press ⌘⇧Space, and pick a wizard. Cloud processing sends your text directly to Gemini.

Other cloud providers

Create keys through the Groq console (API Keys → Create), OpenRouter key settings, or Mistral La Plateforme (Workspace → API keys). Save the key for your chosen Primary Provider and test the connection. Free-tier availability, limits, and eligibility can change; check the provider before use.

Find free models and API tokens: compare free LLM models and providers at free-llm-models.custats.info, and find free tokens, trial credits, and API offers at freetokens.custats.info. Choose an offer with API access for a TextWiz-supported provider or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint, sign up with the provider, create an API key, and follow the setup guide. Check the provider's current limits and eligibility before claiming an offer.

Shortcuts share one Primary Provider and Model from Settings. Capture text via clipboard + hotkey or Services → Process with TextWiz.

Built-in cloud providers offer three suggested defaults plus user-added API model IDs. In Dashboard → Providers, enter the exact API model ID and use Validate & Add to check that model before saving without generating text. Local engines discover installed models.

Custom OpenAI-compatible providers require HTTPS with a host and no embedded credentials, query, or fragment; existing custom HTTP endpoints must be updated before use. API keys stay in macOS Keychain. Built-in local engines keep their HTTP setup.

Click Copy to close the panel and return focus to your source app, then paste with ⌘V. Auto-copy is optional and off by default. Services preserves selected text after failure, refusal, or an incomplete result and opens the floating panel.
